This nearly edged-on galaxy,named NGC3044 and typed SB(s)c,can be found in the constellation of Sextans.Sized 4.7´x 0.7´arc-minutes with an aparent brightness of 12.0mag,it can easily be detected in mid-sized telescopes of apertures larger than 6 inches.
Its real distance is about 50 light-years from our own milky-way.Many star-burst regions can be found inside this galaxy,wherein the supernova SN 1983E could be observed (type II).
NGC3044 was first observed by William Herschel in 1784.
