Dumbbell Nebula (M 27) in Vulpecula

M 27, also known as Dumbbell is a planetary nebula in the constellation Vulpecula at a distance of about 1227 light-years.
This bright object shining at mag 7.5 was the first planetary nebula to be discovered by Charles Messier in 1764.
The bright nebula spans 8 by 6 arc-min, a faint but complex halo extends to several arc-min in diameter both in H-alpha and O-III well visible in this deep image.
