This fine SAB(rs)bc-typed barred spiral-galaxy,named NGC157, can be found as a 4.2' x 2.7' large and 10.5mag bright fuzzy dot in the constellation of Cetus,even with smaller instruments (>4" aperture).

About 77mio.light-years away,it was first detected by William Herschel in 1783.

There are many star-forming-regions along its bright arms.

In the year 2009 a Typ-I-Supernova could be observed in NGC157.
