M64

M64 (NGC 4826) is also as the black eye galaxy. It is a tightly wound spiral galaxy about 17 million light-years away in the constellation of Coma Berenices. A dark band of absorbing dust in front of its nucleus give rise the nickname Black Eye galaxy. 
 
M64 is a type 2 Seyfert galaxy and there is evidence that the galaxy has recently experienced a large influx of gas.
